Preparing for your NTU Interview

Check when and how

Before your interview, we’ll email you with all the information you need, including:

• the date and time of your interview
• details of anything specific you’ll need to do in advance
• details of any work, portfolios or documentation that we’d like you to bring with you
• our contact details in case you have any questions.

Make a note of the date and time and check that you’re able to attend. If you need to reschedule let us know as soon as possible.

If your university interview is conducted in person, plan your travel arrangements and make sure you arrive on time. If your interview is online, make sure you have access to a quiet place without distractions.

Know your subject

Keep up-to date with the latest trends in your subject area as you may be asked to showcase your knowledge and views.

Prepare for questions 

You’ll need to be ready to answer questions about your application. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about your course and NTU. Asking good questions will impress your interviewer(s) just as much as good answers will help you.

Plan what you’ll wear

Avoid any stress on the day by planning what you’ll wear beforehand.

Practice

Ask if you can arrange mock interviews with a teacher, family member or friend and cover why you chose your course and what you enjoy about your current studies.

Usually, at least two people will interview you. You’ll need to prepare and bring along any requested work, as your interview will often be based around this. We’ll ask you questions about:

• your academic history
• your relevant experience and skills
• why you chose your course and why you want to study at NTU.

Pay attention to your body language

Sit up straight, smile, make eye contact and engage with your interviewer(s).

Listen carefully

Make sure you take your time to answer each question properly – if you lose your train of thought you can always ask for the question to be repeated.

Ask questions

Prepare some questions of your own. Your interview isn't just about deciding whether you're a good fit for NTU, it's about whether we're a good fit for you too. The interview is a great opportunity to learn more about us, as well as showing the interviewers how passionate you are about your chosen subject.

Remember to be yourself

We were impressed enough with your application to invite you to an interview. Treat the interview as an opportunity to discuss your application, yourself, and to find out more about your course.

After your interview, we’ll make a decision within three to five working days. Our Admissions team will then submit this decision to UCAS within another three to five working days. In total, you shouldn’t wait longer than 10 working days before a decision appears in your UCAS hub.

If we make you an offer, any conditions of that offer will also be detailed in your UCAS hub. Don’t forget to respond to your offer by the UCAS response deadline, which can be found on the UCAS website.

Depending on what course you’re doing, we may also invite you to one of our post-application offer holder events so that you can visit NTU again. This will be an event held by your School, so it's a great opportunity to find out more about your course and chat with staff and current students. Many Schools run workshops and sample lectures as part of their event so that you can really begin to see what it would be like to be a student at NTU.
