Dr Pauline Polkey Masters Scholarship - School of Arts and Humanities

Thanks to the generosity of the Ellis family and Excel Computer Holdings Ltd, we are pleased to be able to offer the Dr Pauline Polkey Masters Scholarship in memory of Dr Pauline Polkey, a valued and inspirational lecturer in the School of Arts and Humanities at NTU.

The award will support two talented students with exceptional academic potential who need help with meeting the costs of studying at university.

This scholarship scheme is competitive, and we award scholarships to the applicants who most closely meet or exceed the criteria for the award. The scholarship decision is made by an awarding committee and all decisions of the committee are final.

These prestigious awards are open to applications from students who have an offer of a place on a postgraduate degree in the 2024/25 academic year within the School of Arts and Humanities.

The scholarship will be a full tuition fee reduction. If you are awarded a scholarship your fee will be adjusted at the point of enrolment.

Please note that this is one of a number of awards offered by Nottingham Trent University. View the range of available awards. Prospective students can apply for more than one named scholarship/award/tuition fee reduction, however, you will only be awarded a maximum of one in your first year of study (the highest award that you are eligible for).

17. The scholarship will be awarded when an applicant accepts their scholarship offer, accepts, and meets the conditions of their course offer, and is eligible to enrol on the course. If you do not formally accept the scholarship by the given deadline, then NTU reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship and award it to another candidate.

18. Scholarships are competitive and selection is based on the information provided on the scholarship application form. It is, therefore, of great importance that you give your scholarship statements careful thought and preparation, and that you refer to the criteria provided on the application form.

19. If your scholarship application is successful, we may ask you to become a student ambassador or appear in online and/or printed marketing materials for NTU, such as the Alumni Magazine. For example, providing a student profile, quote, case study and photograph which may be used to promote NTU and NTU’s scholarship schemes and courses. o Write a thank you letter to your donor which introduces yourself (providing your name and subject of study) and sending it to darscholarships@ntu.ac.uk;

o Write an end-of-year report which will be shared with your donor to explain the impact that the scholarship has had on your studies and your university life – within the report you will be expected to provide your name and subject of study;

o From time to time, you will be invited to attend other University events to meet and thank donors.

You will receive information and advice about completing all of the above, including the deadline by which you will need to do so after you have enrolled at the university. Please note that failure to provide the requested information and/or engage in these activities may result in a delay to your scholarship payment(s).

21. By accepting the terms of the scholarship/bursary, the recipient consents to feedback from academic supervisors and tutors, and where appropriate, their grades or final degree classification being shared with the donor.

22. In the event that a student who has been awarded a scholarship fails to complete an eligible course, chooses to retake the course, or undertakes another eligible course then the scholarship will not be applied again, regardless of the reason for doing so. Students must re-apply for the scholarship if it is still available.

23. If a student is required to repeat an academic year of study (either in full or in part), the scholarship will be suspended during the repeat year of study.

24. Should a student withdraw from their course whilst owing a proportion of their tuition fees to NTU, application of the scholarship shall be at the discretion of NTU, and the scholarship may be withdrawn.

25. Students are obliged to inform NTU immediately of any changes to their circumstances, which may affect their entitlement to receive the scholarship. In the event of failure by a student to notify NTU promptly of any such changes, NTU will be entitled to reverse any fee adjustments made or adjust (as appropriate) the scholarship amount.

26. If a student makes a false or materially incorrect declaration that results in NTU awarding them a scholarship/bursary, then the scholarship will be cancelled, and the fee adjustment may be withdrawn.

27. NTU’s decision in all matters relating to the scholarship is final.
