Ready? BTEC Go!

As you start at university, we know that students with a vocational background often feel less confident about their studies than those from an A Level background.  With this in mind we'd like to invite you to take part in a scheme that will help you prepare to succeed: Ready? BTEC, Go!

Complete a brief survey in NOW Student Help under Ready? BTEC, Go! and a Library Student Mentor from your School will contact you via email, Teams or WhatsApp. They will arrange a time that fits in with your studies, and work with you to find useful tips about the aspects of university study you feel least confident about. Library Student Mentors are 2nd and final year undergraduate, and postgraduate students, and they know what it’s like to be a first year. The appointments will be 100% personalised, to help you with academic skills, such as writing or maths and stats. No question is too big or too small!

Mature Student Booster

As you start at university, we know that mature students often feel less confident about their studies than students coming straight from school.  With this in mind we'd like to invite you to take part in a scheme that will help you prepare to succeed: Mature Student Booster!

Complete a brief survey in NOW Student Help under Mature Student Booster! and a Library Student Mentor from your School will contact you via email, Teams or WhatsApp. They will arrange a time that fits in with your studies and other responsibilities, and work with you to find useful tips about the aspects of university study you feel least confident about. Although not all of our Library Student Mentors are mature, they are 2nd and final year undergraduate, and postgraduate students, and they know what it’s like to be a first year. The appointments will be 100% personalised, to help you with academic skills, such as writing or maths and stats.

Library Student Mentor Appointments

Do you have a specific question or problem that you're struggling with? Book an appointment for a one-to-one conversation.

We can provide advice on the best way to approach your work and suggest new ways of thinking about your assignments. You can find help with your study and research questions by making an appointment to talk with a member of the Learning and Teaching Team, who can give guidance on how to approach studying, academic writing, and maths and stats.

We want you to develop effective learning strategies, to underpin the skills you will use during your studies at University, and beyond.

Your Library Student Mentors are 2nd and final year undergraduates, and postgraduate students, and their job is to help you with academic skills, such as writing or maths and stats. Our mentors come from subject areas taught and researched across the University and can advise how to approach your work by using their own experiences as students.
